Attracted by Brown County's natural beauty, famed "Hoosier Group" impressionist painter Theodore Clement Steele (1847-1926) was the first artist to settle in the future "Art Colony of the Midwest." Visitors may enjoy original artwork while touring Steele's home and studio, and explore restored gardens, hiking trails and a 92-acre nature preserve. Call for seasonal hours. Closed in winter.

Pioneer Museum

Northeast Corner of the Courthouse on Museum Way The Brown County Historical Society sponsors a Pioneer Museum located at the Northeast Corner of the Courthouse on Museum Way. The Pioneer Museum is open May through October on weekends & holidays from 1-5 p.m. Visit the Pioneer Log Cabin, Blacksmith Shop, Jail, Doctor's Office and Loom Room. Donation to visit is $1.50 per adult with children under 10 free when accompanied by an adult. Donation to visit the jail is 25 cents per person.
